[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] Kavu swatted the moist jungle plants aside with his paw, mumbling to himself about the humidity. "Wasn't this humid in the Drylands..." As he swatted aside another group of plant life, he saw a break in the jungle canopy. "Finally." As he stood in the center, he looked up at the sky to see the lightening sky.
Daylight.
No! I didn't hunt! I can't tell what time of day it is with these cursed plants... He let loose a low growl, in a foul mood. He stomach growled as well. Ugh...
He looked around him, looking for anything he could use as food, something easily catchable. He didn't see any prey, but he spotted a brightly colored fruit in a tree, about a body-length up. Being on the road so much meant that you had to sacrifice to eat. The fruit was edible, so it was to be eaten.
He carefully placed his back right foot on the tree, claws unsheathed into the wood. He then picked up his back left foot and did the same and used his front paws to hold him up while moving each foot. His technique did as accomplished and brought him inches from his meager meal. He unhooked his left paw and reached to grab to fruit. Just as he was about to touch it, the branch of the tree creaked dangerously and snapped.
"OOF!" He landed on his side. The branch had landed on top of him, squishing both him and the fruit between the bulky branch and the ground.
Smooth one. Legend: Thoughts "My words" "Others' words"

Imani, perfectly accustomed to her jungle home, was lounging under the same of a large tree when she heard a large crack. The morning humidity had made her drowsy, but she sprang up as the sound echoed throughout the jungle. Normally, she wouldn't have bothered searching for the source of the crack, but the jungle had been quiet lately, with the unusual heat setting in. She stood up, stretched, and shook out her fur. Her ears flicked, listening closely, when her nose caught an unfamiliar smell.
She immediately went on edge. The fur on the back of her neck stood up, and her body went rigid for a few moments. Taking a deep breath, she headed off to where the smell was coming from. The brown lioness blended in wonderfully with the shades of the jungle, and as she moved silently through it, she knew she had the upper paw. The smell grew stronger, until finally, the intruder came into view. She lay crouched behind a tree, peeking around to stare at the figure's broad back. It wasn't a sight she expected to see.
A large male lion, light in fur color, laid under the branch of one of the Vinelands precious fruit trees. She looked from the tree, to the jumble of body and branch on the ground below, and quickly deduced what had happened. The claw marks on the tree also helped her put together what had happened. She tilted her head, wondering how dangerous this male really was. To be honest, he looked rather silly with a tree branch on his back, and fruit splattered over his chest. She crawled out from behind the tree, and cleared her throat.
"If you want to eat, do you mind not destroying our home in the process, vagrant?" She raised her left eyebrow, the one currently not covered by her bang, and waited patiently for his response. Imani was still suspicious as to why he was here, but she wouldn't fight unless she had to. And she was sure she could take this male, if he was as clumsy fighting as he was climbing.

[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] For the first couple of moments after he had landed, squashed against the ground, he just laid there and thought, Wow, am I an idiot. After he heard the approach of another creature, he sighed mentally. And the embaressment continues.
"If you want to eat, do you mind not destroying our home in the process, vagrant?" The obviously female voice rang in the small clearing. He sat up, shrugging off the massive branch with his muscled shoulders and legs. The branch landed on the ground with a large thud. He licked his chesthair a couple times, removing faint traces of berry from his sand-colored pelt. "I assure you it wasn't my intention." His reply didn't contain its usual diplomatic ring. He turned to face her. "Passing through, as all." Legend: Thoughts "My words" "Others' words"

As he turned around, her jaw almost dropped. She somehow managed to keep it together, and keep her expression the same. He had been slow to get up, and she wondered how embarassed he must feel that she had caught him in such an awkward moment. He was quite handsome, and she found it hard to ignore his musculed body. Imani stepped forward from her place in the shadows and stood tall and proud. Looking him up and down, she couldn't help but let out a small laugh.
"Well if you have anymore accidents like that, the whole pride will hear you before you make it halfway through here. Wouldn't want my uncle pushing his weight around, would we?" She chuckled again, then turned her eyes to the newly scratched tree. "It seems you lack the finesse needed to climb." She looked towards another tree, heavy with fruit, and walked towards it. She circled it for a moment, found what she was looking for, and reappeared with a large red fruit in her mouth. She tossed it to him, the prize landing close to his feet. "You could have just searched the ground, you know. A lot safer...and less embarassing." Her tone was light and joking, and she held no fear of this outsider. She wondered how long it would take him to pass through, and if she could get him to stay awhile.

[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] Her chime-like voice sent a peculiar feeling through his body, something he'd not felt before. Her beautiful green eyes looked him up and down. "Well if you have anymore accidents like that, the whole pride will hear you before you make it halfway through here. Wouldn't want my uncle pushing his weight around, would we?" He thought nervously, No we would not... Though he was a large, muscled lion and a practiced fighter, he couldn't take on a King and his kingdom. But, this lioness seemed friendly enough. "It seems you lack the finesse needed to climb."
He unleashed a short burst of laughter. "It wasn't my lack of anything the caused the branch to crack." He nosed the bulky branch to the side of the clearing. "You could have just searched the ground, you know. A lot safer...and less embarrassing." Her tantalizing voice reached him again.
He turned around to face her, his sandy mane swinging. He chuckled, his voice low. "Where's the adventure in that?" Legend: Thoughts "My words" "Others' words"

She smiled, glad she had managed to make him laugh. It was deep and masculine. She watched as his mane moved with his head, the sandy fur flowing back and forth. She found it enchanting, the way it moved so easily. She looked away, eyeing the jungle around them. "Could have fooled me," she chuckled.
Turning back to him, she tossed her head, moving her bang so she could get a better view. She pondered his question. "If adventure is what you seek, you should have tried fishing near the falls. More shade, water. Maybe more success," she said teasingly, eyeing the shoved aside branch.
The more she thought about it, the more tantalizing the Waterfall sounded. She was growing uncomfortable in the border, the heat a burden and the lack of trees leaving her vunerable. She liked the depths of the jungle, the shade keeping her cool and the shadows giving her places to conceal herself. She gave him the foreign male a mischievous look, before backing away a few steps. "There's plenty of adventure in the jungle, if you look for it." She gave him a wink, and disappeared behind the trees she had first appeared. She hadn't gone far, but she hoped he would follow.

[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] "Could have fooled me." She chuckled, which made joy bubble up inside of him. In response to his request for adventure, she replied, "If adventure is what you seek, you should have tried fishing near the falls. More shade, water. Maybe more success." Her request was tempting, too tempting. "There's plenty of adventure in the jungle, if you look for it."
As she disappeared into the jungle, he called, "Maybe you could show me." Legend: Thoughts "My words" "Others' words"OOC:: I apologize for the rediculously short post... too many distractions.

A smirk appeared on her face, glee bubbling inside her. Maybe you could show me. She was hoping he would say that. She paused in her walk, turning her head to see if he was behind her yet. He wasn't, but if he had called after her, then the urge to follow surely had to be there. She called back to him, her voice melodic as it flowed through the trees to his ears. "If you want me to show you, you have to find me first."
A challenge. She didn't know how impressed this foreigner was, but she knew most males wouldn't back down from a challenge to their skills. She moved quickly, knowing the deeper she got into the jungle, the better she could hide. As light as she moved, she still left a few paw prints in the sand, but there was no time to brush them away. As the vegetation got thicker, she looked up, the light from the morning sun disappearing slowly.
She finally stopped after about ten minutes. She looked at a tall tree to her left, thick with leaves, blocking out any light from above. The canopy echoed with the voices of birds and monkeys calling to one another, warning that a predator was near. She looked around, checking to see if her acquaintance was in sight. Seeing that he wasn't, she unsheathed her back claws and hopped onto the tree. She landed a body length up, and began to climb slowly up. The lowest branch wasn't far, but it was high enough that she wouldn't be seen unless the sandy male looked up. She lay down carefully; she wasn't as light as a leopard, and she hoped her weight wouldn't cause the branch to break, even though it looked sturdy enough. Now she waited.

[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] "If you want me to show you, you have to find me first!
He smiled. And the game begins.
He immediately heard a whisking of plants as a large body passed them, running. He sped to where her voice came and saw the path of moving plants. He followed, just slow enough to notice the details of her escape. Where there was a gap in moving plants, faint paw prints completed the trail. He heard a large mass of birds and other animals of the jungle calling out, warning of a predator. As he approached and the animals fled, with no hope of escaping two predators. He looked around, in a small clearing. There were no clues here, except one. Two paw prints, firmly showing in the ground as if she had jumped. They were just beside a tall, sturdy-looking tree. He looked up and smiled.
"Found ya." Legend: Thoughts "My words" "Others' words"

She perked her ears as the animals in the canopies screeched in terror, then suddenly fell silent. The jungle was quiet, too quiet. The foreigner was near. She adjusted her position on the branch, making herself comfortable. After that, she didn't move a muscle except for her flicking tail. She eyed the ground, patiently waiting to watch her opponent walk beneath her. She figured that besides the trail of prints, she'd done an okay job of hiding. Then she looked directly below the tree and hissed to herself. Two prints, evidence of her leap, were directly under her tree.
Then he appeared. She watched as the sandy colored male paused, determining what to do next. Wow he was gorgeous. She lay perfectly still, a predatory skill she used while hunting. All muscles were tensed, waiting for him to move on, but he didn't. Instead, he looked up at her, giving her a smile that sent warmth through her body. Found ya.
Imani pleased with this foreigner, and apparently she had peaked his interest after all. Standing up from her perch, she leaped down gracefully, landing a few feet in front of the male. She turned to face him, a grin on her face. "Yes, it seems you have. I am Imani. And you are?" She had yet to ask her name, and she felt silly for forgetting her manners. She tilted her head in curiosity, wondering where this male was from. What was his story? And how or why had he wandered into her home?

[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] The lioness gracefully landed beside him after leaping from her perch. She returned a smile. "Yes, it seems you have. I am Imani. And you are?"
The question, though meaning nothing more than a simple identification to her or anyone else, meant more to him. He wasn't one to leave his name in places where he didn't intend to stay. He also didn't intend to stay anywhere, or find a mate, any time soon. What he had always wanted always seemed so clear to him. Adventure and excitement was his only goal in life.
And yet, he wasted no time in gently licking the side of her face and whispering, "Kavu."
He turned and ran off without warning, making his way deep into the forest. Just within ear range, he spoke, "Your turn."
He made his escape slightly different than hers, sticking to more open spaces where he couldn't disturb the plant life. He even made a detour to a river, where he washed off his scent and continued on a little ways upstream. The dense jungle stopped any breeze in its tracks, and he was careful to tread lightly. This was more of a test of her will than of her tracking skills. In the end, he found a strong, tall tree that he perched on, carefully quiet and motionless. She jerked back in surprise as he licked her cheek, but the shock was easily taken over by the shivers that ran up and down her spine as he whispered his name in her ear. In a flash he was off, disappearing into the deep foliage of the jungle. Imani laughed, taking off after him almost immediately.
The plants lay still as she ran past them, following her nose rather than her eyes. Eventually, she slowed slightly, the scent gone from the thick air. Perking her ears high on her head, she turned around carefully. A splash in the distance caught her attention, and a small smirk crossed her face. He'd gone towards the river, a mistake when being stalked by a jungle cat. She headed towards the water, and splasged through to the bank on the opposite side.
She dipped her head, scanning the ground momentarily before finding what she was searching for. Paw prints, imprinted deep into the mud. She sniffed them and smiled; they were definitely fresh, and they headed into a part of the jungle she knew well. Straightening up, she headed in the direction of the tracks. She was enjoying their game, seeing as how it was the most excitement she'd had in months. Her uncle and aunt hadn't had many entertaining guests, besides Kijana's future "mate". She wrinkled her nose, shaking her head in disgust at her aunt's safe choice. The lioness that her poor cousin had become betrothed to was rather a bore, and lacked any kind of personality as far as Imani was concerned. She was dull, and stuck to close to the rules. Imani was one to follow laws, but she was nothing like Kijana's future queen. She felt sorry for him, being tied down to a log.
She suddenly stopped, ears high and on the alert. The tracks had disappeared awhile ago and there was only a faint scent of her new acquaintance. It wasn't strong enough for her to track him down. Unknown to Imani, Kavu was directly above her. As she circled the tree for a moment, thinking about new methods of finding him, a thought occured to her. If he was smart, he wouldn't be caught on the ground. Looking to the trees, she scanned the canopy and smiled. "Hello there," she chuckled as she spotted the sandy male.

[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] The leaves had just settled in his tree when Imani entered the small clearing he had found for himself. She circled beneath him, and for a moment he thought he had thwarted her. It appeared as if she had an epiphany, scanning the trees nearby until she spotted him.
"Hello there."
He growled good-naturedly. "A pelt like mine doesn't hide well here, now does it." He chuckled to himself and leapt down from the tree. He landed beside her with grace he had lacked on his first attempt to dismount a tree. He didn't want to be here, but here he was. Since he met her he didn't want to leave. Everything about this place he despised. The close spaces and dampness, amongst other things, were quite opposite of what he loved. But he couldn't bring himself to leave. All because of her.

She chuckled back, shaking her head in agreement. "No, it doesn't.[/color]" She took a moment to admire his pelt once more, his think blond mane and sandy, muscled body. Kavu was certainly a fine sight to look at; he was much more interesting than the males in her homeland. Turning to look at the bright green foliage around her, she responded wistfully, "As am I." Turning to look back at the vagrant, she smiled.
Walking a few paces away, she inhaled deeply, taking in the scents of the jungle she loved so dearly. "I promised you a tour, didn't I?[/color]" Imani tossed her head regally, something she figured she'd inherited from her mother and aunt, her bang falling into place over her eye perfectly. Her green eyes flashed with mystery and curiousity, wondering what was going through the foreign male's head. She knew he was just a passer-by, but in her heart she hoped he would stay and reveal more of himself to her. She was certain he had many stories to tell, and she wanted to hear them. Imani hadn't ventured out of the Vinelands in her lifetime, and she wasn't sure she really wanted to after Vitani's disappearance. At the same time, she wanted to know what the land on the other side of the desert was like.[/size]

[glow=brown,2,300]KAVU[/glow] His heart couldn't help swelling as he noticed his thorough once-over, with no sign of displeasure. Her agreement with her pleased him, but her wistful smile took his breath away. He froze for a second, lost in a haze of wonderment and desire, before returning back to himself.
"I promised you a tour didn't I?" The toss of her head sent his heart away again and drew out his crooked smile. With no fiber of rebellion left in his body, he replied, "Yes, yes you did." And he looked into her deep, green eyes and saw the Vinelands. For once, when he looked into a dark, luscious forest, he saw beauty beyond comparison. Maybe, just maybe, there was still hope for him.
