OOC: Naji's mother is just for this post))
Amira continued to run, her young infant son hanging limply from her jaws by his scruff. Panting heavily she placed him down near what looked to her like some old human type of thing, but she didn't have time to contemplate that at the current moment. Placing him down she quickly looked around to see if anybody was following her, then she left the cub to fend for itself. The little infant began to look around and mewl as if he wanted her to come back, which he did. A few hours later the sun's heat began to beat down slightly onto the cub's fur making him feel quite hot. He began to pant but it didn't help much so he just bided his time and mewed on occasion thinking his mother was going to return or at least have someone find him to take him to her.

The rain had taken a break, and it was most certainly welcome. The grounds of the Oldlands were thoroughly drenched from the constant moisture and as Chanua wound her way through the grounds, her paw prints were left behind, forming a trail. A yawn stretched her jaws wide and her ears flicked idly atop her head and she inhaled deeply, taking in the scent of the fresh earth and the rains that were still to come. But for now, the sun was shining brightly and rather harshly on the earth as if it were attempting to dry everything out before the rains resumed. Panting slightly in the heat, the reddish brown hued lioness continued upon her trek through the lands, head lifted as she padded daintily along. After a few moments, the scent of another lioness entered her nostrils and the female halted immediately, lifting her head higher, scanning the horizon for any view of the lioness she smelled. Several minutes passed, and satisfied that the scent was not too recent, she continued on her way until she was once again stopped in her path by the sound of soft cries coming from nearby.
Breathing in again, this time not as deeply, another unfamiliar scent invaded her nostrils. Lowering her head slightly, the lioness followed the scent to a small outcropping of rocks. Coming to a halt again, the rusty hued lioness waited patiently, her breathing shallow and her ears turned forward on her head until the small mewing was heard again. Placing her paws on the top of the outcropping of rocks, Chanua peered over to the other side quietly, bright eyes landing on the small shape of a seemingly abandoned cub. Gasping, she quickly settled her paws back onto the ground and wound her way around the rocks to the cub, leaning her head down to chuff softly at the small creature. Glancing around the area quickly, Chanua chuffed again, louder, in an attempt to see if the mother was anywhere nearby. After receiving no reply, the lioness spoke, her voice soothing and warm, Poor thing. Looking around the area again, she spoke out loud to herself. I wonder where your mother could have gotten off to. Looking back down at the cub, Chanua sighed slightly and softly nudged the tiny creature.

The infant began to mew, its eyes opening slowly at somebody's touch, a warm voice reaching his small ears. Blinking from the sunlight he peered up at the figure as best he could trying to figure out what it was. Maybe it was his mother! Wiggling his body back and forth, he tried making his way towards her, mewing out in hunger and happiness.

As the infant cub wriggled and mewed beneath her, Chanua lifted her head and chuffed again. Once she received no reply, the lioness determined the cub had been abandoned by his mother. Lowering her head, she chuffed very softly over the cub and stepped closer to him, lowering her body to the ground so he could easily wriggle his way over to her. Gazing around the area again, she kept her eyes out for any sign of a returning lioness, though in the back of her mind, she doubted that any would be returning for the young cub. Tilting her head, the lioness turned her gaze back down to the young cub. Grunting softly, she lowered her head and nudged the cub slightly, pulling back a bit afterwards but staying close enough to allow the cub to nudge back if he desired. Laying there with the cub, Chanua pondered to herself what the others would think if she came back with a infantile cub in tow. However, there was no way she was going to leave the cub here to fend for himself. It was a dangerous environment, and he certainly would not make it through the night without the protection of the lioness.

Feeling a large shadow over his small body, the infant touched his small dark brown nose to her light pink larger one. Still mewing he tried to find, by scent, an area where he could suckle and satisfy his hunger. Trying his best to climb over her large paw he tumbled onto his back and blinked, staring up at the unknown female while sucking his small back foot pondering who she was.

A gentle smile graced the lioness' features and she craned her neck forward and latched gently onto the scruff of the cub, pulling him close to her so he could find his way about easily. He was most certainly a precious little thing. Keeping watch over him, the smile never left her face as she watched him tumble backwards. Laughing softly, she reached out a paw and scooped the cub closer to her once again, nuzzling his side softly. Looking up towards the sky as the clouds began to roll in, Chanua wondered if the rains would be starting back up soon. If so, she would have to move the cub to the dens of the Oldlands to ensure he wouldn't come down with any sickness from the rains. As she gazed down at the cub, she felt her heart swelling with newfound happiness and she felt her mothering instincts kick in as she nuzzled the small cub closer to her in an attempt to keep him safe and warm. Chanua was certain there would still be milk for this cub from the one she had lost some time before. Closing her eyes slightly, the rusty hued lioness grunted in happy complacency.

Continuing to suck on his back foot the cub felt a drop of water land on his nose. Looking up at the lioness he thought it was a drop of spit or something else, but no, it was rain. Water began to fall from the sky, thunder began to clap. The infant just began to laugh at the thunder when it boomed above them, pawing at the lioness above thinking it was her.

As the rain began to fall, Chanua grumbled to herself in mild annoyance. The cub's tiny laughter caught her attention, and another smile broke across her face. Chuffing lovingly at the cub, she took his scruff gently in her teeth and rose to her paws, meandering across the open expanse of the Oldlands. The rain wasn't falling too terribly hard at this point, but the thunder was hinting that a severe storm was on the way. As she grew closer to the dens of the pride, Chanua picked her pace up slightly, eager to ender the warm, dry caverns and return to looking after the cub. Looking around the lands for any signs of Eupe or the others, yet sighting no others, the lioness slipped inside of the den that was her favorite. Setting the cub down softly, Chanua laid back down, pulling the little one closer with a paw before nuzzling him gently. You need a name, don't you little one? One fitting of you. While she pondered, she kept an eye on the cub. After a few moments, the name popped into her head and she nodded to herself, Well. I believe we shall name you Naji, meaning to survive. Satisfied that the name was perfect for the young cub, Chanua nudged him again gently with her pink nose.

Naji. The infant blinked and giggled reaching for the female's muzzle before emitting a small yawn. He curled up while still in her paws and fell asleep, his small ear twitching on occasion as he slept.

Laying her muzzle across her paws, the lioness watched the young cub sleep. Listening as the rains picked up, she pondered where the cub's birth mother could have gotten off to and how she could have just left him as she did. Lifting her head, Chanua yawned slightly and turned her gaze back to the cub. Heart swelling with joy, the lioness vowed that she wouldn't abandon the cub. She intended to rain Naji as her own now. He needed someone to care for him and teach him as he grew. She had been the one to find him, so why shouldn't it be her? Chanua chuffed softly, happily at the sleeping cub before lowering her head onto her paws again. As the sounds of the rain falling against the rock provided a soothing lullaby, the lioness felt her eyes close as she soon slipped off into the darkness of sleep.

Some small amount of time passed and Naji began to slowly grow a little bit, a small amount of black hairs began to appear on top of his small head and his eyes had opened to reveal they were a blue grey combination. Waking up while still in his mother's paws, which was where he usually slept, he tried to look around but his mother's head was on top of him. Stuck under her massive chin he tried his best to turn over but with the weight on top of him it was useless. "My!" he vocalized hoping she'd wake up. (Mommy!)

The cry caused the lioness to stir slightly and in the groggy, sleep clouded recesses of her mind she realized that her cub wanted out from her paws. Lifting her head slightly, eyes still closed, she waited until Naji had crept out before laying her head back down. Spreading her massive jaws, the lioness let out a yawn before partially opening one eye to gaze as the small form of the cub she’d taken on as her own, smiling every so slightly. It was very obvious that he’d quickly become the apple of her eye. Yawning again, the lioness closed her partially opened eye and sighed softly before instantly slipping back into sleep. It was just before sunrise, and the precious moments of stolen sleep before Naji would come to rouse his mother again were treasured by Chanua.
She didn’t mind be woken by the cub, but taking care of him was currently a full time and rather exhausting job. Though she was young, he had an abundance of energy that was common among young cubs and attempting to keep up with him sometimes got rather tiring. Though, Chanua would not trade any of it for anything in the world. She loved little Naji, and she was rather happy to have the little bundle of joy in her life.

While sitting there watching his mother as she slept a giant butterfly with blue and green wings flew above the golden cub which caught his attention quickly. As it landed on his nose he began to paw at it as the insect flew closer to the edge of a rock on which Naji had climbed. Naturally not wanting it to get away, he tried to stand up on his small hind legs but seemed a little bit hesitant to do so, anyways he continued pawing at it and he suddenly tried jumping for it causing the cub to slip and fall with a slight hard thump off the rock in which he was standing.

The sound of scraping rocks woke the lightly sleeping lioness. Lifting her head just in time to see her cub to go over the edge of the rock, she leapt up swiftly. Naji! Rushing over, she leaned over the edge of the rock and secured the scruff of the cub's neck in her teeth before pulling him back over onto safe ground. After releasing him, she breathed a sigh of relief before gazing down at him. Frowning, she spoke, Naji, you can't run off until I'm awake, okay? You could get hurt. It was true. He was entirely too young to even attempt to wander off on his own. He'd barely just learned to walk. Leaning down, she licked behind his ears in an attempt to clean him. She'd planned on moving them away from the ancestor shrine today. While it was a good and protective place for cubs, it was simultaneously a dangerous place, as she'd just witnessed. How would you like to move to a new home, my little one?

Naji began to giggle as he was carried away from the rock's edge back to the safety of the ground. "My!" he said as he was placed down and rubbing against her foreleg then Naji began staring up at her in bewilderment tilting his head slightly in confusion as she spoke to him, not comprehending what she was telling him. Letting out a mewl, he flicked his tail as she spoke about something called a..a new home. It sounded pretty exciting and he was willing to give it a try, placing his small paws on her foreleg he began to happily mewl a few times ready for adventure.
