Memories; bittersweet and always there... They stood in your mind, triggered by the smallest things. Isn't it funny that you couldn't remember what you did a year ago on that random happy day, but you can remember every holiday, every first... Every near death experience, and still go through every "What if" a thousand times in your mind and never be at peace, despite the experience being long over with? It was the very problem the young lioness was having, a memory she was trying to put out of her mind.
It had all started when the cubs were concieved, and made for an arranged marriage at birth. The cubs, barely knowing what was hitting them, were growing up.. And it was when her baby had gone running off one day, hearing that she had to marry someone by force one day. A hyena had stalked her and chased her into the badlands. Nima had been looking for days, as had others. Nima had been the one to find her, bloody, beaten, and crying. Permanent scars marked her tiny body. And those scars were still there today, years later, as the young female was growing into a teenager... A vague reminder that as a cub she had nearly died.
How come she had not been there, and had been so careless to not tell her daughter until it was her second birthday? Why, it was a year ago to this day, and the young lioness still worried... Still wondered.. What would her daughter be like if she had never arranged a marriage for her, if she had never told her, or told her sooner? What if?
