The black lioness speckled with white stood solemnly on a rock that overlooked the oasis pool. Lush green foilage surrounded her, greener than ever because of the rain. The lioness herself couldn't see the beauty of the desert, but her emerald eyes still held a burning gaze. Lifting her nose to the sky above she scented the air. It was still heavy with rain. As she lowered her majestic head, her tuft fell over her eyes, its white tip standing out in the shadow. Knowing that somewhere above her head, the stars sparkled -- beyond the towering clouds. Aina. She spoke to herself of a young lioness that had recently drowned in a quicksand pit caused by the rain. Your body may have perished and your spirit passed on, but this pride shall always keep you in our hearts. The queen sighed and lowered herself to the rock cool surface. Exhaustion swept over her. Speaking to herself again, the gaunt lioness yawned. I cannot lose any more lions! This pride is weak enough. Realizing she had been talking to herself, the queen shook her head and lowered it onto her paws. Her blind eyes staring blankly ahead of her as she bacame lost in thought.

The wet sand stuck to his paws, creating a film of dirty brown over his pale creamy paws. His head was hung low, watching the path infront of him cautiously as he wove his way towards the Oasis. Not long ago a young lioness had been caught in a quicksand pit and had unfortunately met her doom there. The shock of such a healthy lioness being taken so quickly and brutally was something that effected all the pride. Mheetu had been very watchful from then on towards all the youngsters in the pride. Particularly Sari, as she was both Valeska's sister and it felt like his sister also. He spotted the Queen on a rock, seemingly honoring Aina, the young lionness that had past. He silently plodded forward, carefully picking his feet and placing them on the wet sand.
His tail flicked slightly as he caught site of her exhuasted form. She was becoming too gaunt for his liking, despite the fact that he was the same, and she seemed more tired than usual. He would have to fix that. Perhaps he could go back to the pridelands, challenge Scar and take them back so he and his pride could have somewhere to flourish. But it was a ridiculous notion he knew as this place was home and as soon as the rains stopped the pride would once again find thier feet. They knew how to survive in the desert and it would be a drastic, if not ill-concieved idea to move from a place they were comfortable in to a place they knew nothing of. Mheetu's grey body slid up the rock, his feet padding softly to make just enough sound so the blind Queen would hear him. He rested himself onto his paws as he gave a sigh and looked into the pool. There he could see his grey self next to the black form of Valeska, her blind eyes staring ahead while he watched her adoringly.
He turned to look at her, knowing that she would never be able to return his gaze with a sort of pang to his heart. "Valeska, I am sorry about Aina" He murmured softly to her, his voice calm and steady. "We must be very careful as the rain continues to fall, I've let Sari and other's know that they should move with caution" Mheetu hoped that he could do something to ease the tension in Valeska's mind. "The rains will go soon, then things will start to look better" He told his Queen with soft determination. Things would get better he was sure of it.

As her mind wandered, the blind queen's sleek ears caught the noise of another lion's pawsteps. The beat was that of Mheetu's, her mate. She smiled slightly when she felt his warmth next to him and his sides shudder with a sigh. Flicking her velvety ears, the lioness listened to what her love had to say. Valeska, I am sorry about Aina. Valeska raised her head slightly and turned towards Mheetu as his voice became louder. She had learned to recognize when someone was looking her in the eyes and alway tried her best to look back into their eyes. We must be very careful as the rain continues to fall, I've let Sari and other's know that they should move with caution. Valeksa let out a sigh of relief. She felt as if a great burden had been lifted off her shoulders. The rains will go soon, then things will start to look better. Valeska shook her head solemnly. Mheetu, you know as well as I do that this is more rain than we've ever had. I would hope it will go away, or move on to the Grasslands. Word has reached me that they are suffuring from a drought, as are the Vinelands and Oldlands. Valeska's regal head turned away, once again worrying about her pride. I pray to the kings that this rain would stop. My pride cannot handle this!
