The sun was directly overhead as Moyo climbed to the base of pride rock. It was the perfect time for trying to find the tiny patches of shade that were left and taking a nap, but Moyo was too distracted to sleep. She hadn't caught anything on her hunt this morning and she was hoping that no one would notice. Crouching behind a rock, Moyo peered out to make sure no one was coming and then began to lick her dusty fur. Deep down Moyo knew no one really cared. If their was less prey then they needed, they would make the real hunters go kill more. It was that simple. However on the surface Moyo was too guilt stricken to realize this. Between every lick Moyo glanced up just to make sure she was still alone. After she was done with her bath Moyo began feeling clean and cozy. Telling herself she would just rest her eyes for a minute the young lioness laid down and rested her head on her paws. She was soon sound asleep.

Midday was not an ideal time for hunting. It was too hot, too difficult. The prey were awake, alert, and the lions could not keep their top speed for long. It was rare, therefore, that the huntresses would even bother at this time of day. If they were going to be sucessful it would be at night or early morning.
Kali was not the most experienced of huntresses. She was four, younger than many of the others, and a mother. Her young daughter took up much of her time these days but she would occasionally leave the youngster with another to get some time to herself or apply her skills for the good of the pride. Indeed it was all she could do. The pride numbers had swelled and, sadly, a drought had hit the pridelands.
The brown-coated female was no average ess. She had a gene mutation which made her undercoat longer, her face bordered by longer fur. She looked odd, but she was happy here. Sure, her sister hated her, but it wasn't Kali's fault she'd been born this way so she couldn't really do anything about that.
Seeing the young Moyo sat by pride rock a soft smile set upon Kali's face as she made her way over. The adolescent really tried to help the pride and seemed to become crest fallen when she failed. By the way Moyo kept looking around today was one of those days so Kali knew the youngster needed a friend, someone to talk to who could both cheer her up and encourage her not to give up.
"Hello there Moyo" she said softly.

Even though the lioness's voice was soft, Moyo still bolted awake. She sat straight up with a gasp and for a moment she looked around wildly trying to remember where she was. When she finally recognized the lion in front of her as Kali the young cub mother, she relaxed a bit. Kali had always seemed a bit more understanding then some of the others in the pride, but Moyo had still let her down. Lowering her head to stare at her feet the younger lioness whimpered, "I am sorry Kali... I really did try though!" Moyo then realize that Kali probably had no clue what she was talking about. Looking back up into the cub mother's eyes she added, "I am sorry I couldn't catch anything for you and your cub to eat." Moyo had met Cyoti only once but she had seemed like a darling little cub, very sweet. Looking away again Moyo thought for a moment, she bit her tongue and tried to think of a way to make it up to Kali. When she had an idea her eyes lit up and said, "I know! Maybe to make it up to you I could look after Cyoti for a little while sometime?" Moyo adored cubs, in fact she adored cubs about as much as she felt she was terrible at hunting.

-RESIDENT WEATHER NYMPH!- A wind is whipping in from the north, past Pride Rock, and over the Pridelands. Dry dirt flings into lions' eyes and loose leaves are rolling across the ground or flying through the air at randomly selected targets. Otherwise, the sun is bright and hot. It scorches lions not under the protection of trees. The wind is strong enough to bend the limbs of ancient trees and throw birds in flight from one side of the savannah to the next. Lions on Pride Rock should be cautious of being flung from it's peak or tip onto the hard ground below.

Wind, wind, and more wind. It was a nice wind, but with warm air under the hot dry sun. Dust, and tan tall grass were all around. The only water in sight was the watering hole, and the water was slowly shrinking. The plains had been hit with a awfull dry spell, and Kiara couldnt wait for the wet weather. She couldnt wait for a release from the heat. A nice cool thunder storm, with plenty of rain would make Kiara even more happy than she has been.
As Kiara steped out of the shade of the den, and the coolness, the heat hit her. It was a dry heat, not humidity in the air. Lifting her head up and to the clear blue sky, she squinted her eyes, and just stood there. Finally making her mind up to go down to the watering hole, and then to go hunting, she made her way to the edge of Pride Rock. Looking out over the plains, she saw what looked to her to be Moyo, and Kali down below. Then she saw what she was after for, through the dusty wind, a heard of antollope. Turning around, she made her treak down to the two lioness'.
As Kiara took light soft steps, dirt blew up and into the wind as she reached the bottom of Pride Rock. There was a little shade down here, the cast of the rock above. Looking around, Kiara spoted Moyo and Kali in the shade. To her it looked like they were relaxing. Smiling, Kiara started to walk up to them. "Hello Moyo" Kiara noded to Moyo. Turing her head to Kali, she smiled and gave her a greating. "What are we doing on this dreadfully hot day?" She said, and sat down, looking at two of her pride mates.

OOC: I hope it's ok for me too! Beware, I'm not too good a poster...
Tawni stretched as she peered out from the shade in a crag of Pride Rock. She poked her head out from behind a rock only to have her face bitten at by the wind and dirt to get into her eyes. She reared backwards, falling upon her slender haunches as she pawed at her eyes, trying to ease the stinging sensation. No way was she going out again! She layed down, her paws on her her watery eyes when she heard two lions talking. bits of their conversation whipped towards her. Hello...I tried!...you...your cub..eat...make it up to you...watch cub." that was all she picked up between those two. Suddenly a new voice pooped in, which Tawni instantly recognized as Kiara. Hearing her, Tawni pulled further into the cave-like crack. She wasn't about to be picked on by the Pridelands princess about her failed hunt.
