Ukali
The sun floated high through the sky above the badlands warming the already over heated wasteland. The volcano in the distance seemed to reach towards the sky, it was almost as though it was the sun's infant child reaching to be held by it's firey mother. And, like a child whenever it's mother refused to hold it it had a temper tantrum. And the horrible truth of it all was that the Badlands were the only ones on the receiving end of that tantrum. Whenever that volcano exploded in rage it never harmed the sun or the sky, the only thing it did manage to harm was the badlands and it's inhabitants.
The ground below was covered with ash and soot along with a great many bones of the animals who once lived here. They were all the victims of the volcano's violent wrath, they meant no harm to the world which they roamed yet their lives were cut short by the volcano's destructive fire. If one looked closer they would be able to see a trail of pawprints in the ashy, lifeless ground that were heading in the direction of the volcano. Further ahead a lioness was quietly trudging through the scorched land. Her eyes observed everything around her from the large volcano not far ahead of her to the remains of animals that were laying scattered around her. The female's sandy brown fur made her stand out amongst the burnt and destroyed wasteland, she would be spotted quite easily by both prey and enemy alike.
The female heaved out a sigh " Ukali, how did you end up in a place like this?" She asked herself. She remembered her crime, the attempted murder of her birth pride's leader, it led to so much trouble and eventually this. Ukali looked to her side and saw that there was a single leaf on a nearby tree, it was healthy, green and didn't have a single scratch on it. The female walked towards the tree which was relatively short making it easy for her to pull the leaf off. She then turned towards the volcano and began to climb towards the top. When she had reached her destination Ukali looked down into the volcano's center, inside magma was brewing, bubbling to show signs that the volcano was still active. Dropping the leaf into the volcano Ukali hung her head "Oh great volcano you have taken the life from our land. You have destroyed our once beautiful home and have made it into a place where death reigns with a violent fist. And now I offer you a single solitary leaf, something that was not destroyed by your firey wrath in the hopes that you will spare us for another day." She said. The moment the leaf hit the lava it disintigrated and became nothing more than ash. That was one of the last bits of life in this whole land and now it was gone. Ukali made her way down from the volcano with a heavy heart, if only things could go back to the way they once were.
