Steady paw steps of a humbled young lioness came upon the grassy land... Leading her towards the place where her grandfather had died, where Zira had died.. where Nuka had died.. So many memories of the past, including from what had been relayed to her, that this was the place where Kovu had gotten his scar. Eyes went down the slope as she entered the gorge, paws adjusting to the hot floor, the soft broken shards upon her claws as she walked. There, as she walked down the gorge, she saw the broken branch... Where Mufasa had died so many years ago. Sniffing it, she thought she could still smell the stench of death. There was the skeleton, the lifeless body that had once been her grandfather.. Mufasa.
Tears stung her eyes, as she muttered, "Why do I care so much.. he's dead.. I never even knew him!" But deep down she thought she knew, why.. Her father had once blamed himself. Yet little to no pity was there for him. Rather it was for her mother, what he had done to her.. Making her think that he was dead, then just popping back into her life and causing trouble from then on.. Or at least in her mind, that was how the story went.
Her tears finally came.. Why had Scar, the one who had once been so close to Simba.. betrayed them all? The memories of her relaying the message to Kovu answered her question.
"Scar had a darkness in him that he couldn't escape.." The thoughts were said aloud, softly, she oddly felt sympathy for Scar. He must have been really, really alone. Was he really the brutal, mindless murderer that everyone had told him to be? Or had he had a soul, thoughts, guilt?
It was then that she knew she needed answers.. "Mother..." She called. "Mama! Where are you.. Where..." She cried softly, not understanding why things happened. She needed her mothers guidance, and perhaps even her fathers, now more then ever...
