When the two were further away from the others, Zora began to preform. "Makko," she purred, "I'm sorry for what I had done to you." Zora made sure to brush her tail against the three scars on his face. She giggled and she circled the frightening lion. As she circled him, purring ever so slightly, she would make sure to bump into him ever so often. She hopped the other lionesses realized her plan. That they get the cubs away and then come back to fight. Zora pulled her face closer, trying to read Makko's face. To see if he was distracted. She hopped he was a little. Then something broke into this moment. A roar. And not just any roar.
This roar belonged to Maliki.

Makko was only vaguely listening to Zora now. His priorities had changed. He heard the other male on the other side of the hill he and Zora had gone down. His olive eyes narrowed as he turned to face this unexpected newcomer. He scented the air, his face scrunching up in disgust. This male was about his age, maybe older maybe younger. That did not matter to Makko, however. What mattered was size, and if he had a companion to call upon.
Though Makko loved a good fight, he also knew how to pick his battles. This was not one he would win. Not while there were four angry adult lionesses around. He cursed mentally and stood tall once more, making himself look more imposing. His claws were already unsheathed, awaiting this new male incase he decided to attack as soon as he rounded that hill top. However, Makko doubted highly that his opponent was that foolish.
Nevertheless, there the intruder stood, body stiff and tail flicking slowly from side to side, a predator waiting to strike. The fur on his back bristled beneath his heavy mane, and he could feel a low growl rumbling in his throat. He mind raced furiously to come up with a reason for wandering into the lands. He could charm a female with ease with his smooth tone and slick words; he had also discovered that he could talk his way out of a fight as well with other males when necessary. But if his word tricks didn't work, there was always the option of running. Now that he had found Zora, he did not need to hang around for long periods of time. He'd found her, and she was not going to escape him again until she paid for her insolence.

Maliki, driven by rage, leaped up onto a ledge. This way he could get to Zora and the supposed Lowlander and attack from above. Maliki wasn't the largest lion but he was big enough, he was going to make this filth regret picking a fight with his lionesses. It took all of king's self control to not roar when he first caught sight of the intruder. He was big, young and he had Zora close to him. The king noticed that lion had three scars across his face, the king tried to remember if he had seen this lion before. But no lion came to mind. By the look on Zora's face she wasn't happy. With the shadows from the Highland cliffs, the Pride Protector crept forward, watching the lion. The lion was looking at the path he was expecting Maliki to come charging into to. "You're in for a surprise." Maliki thought coldly.
Maliki waited a moment longer before attacking. He had to calm himself. He couldn't go into a battle with a unknown male with rage as his guide. He focused on his breathing. Then, when he thought he was calm enough, he leaped. Letting out the most powerful roar his lungs could handle. He landed on the back of Makko and bit down on the scruff his neck. Snarling and digging his claws deep into the sides of his enemy. Maliki slipped off the back of the lion and let out another roar, this one was a battle cry.

The look in Jiraa's eyes was similar to the one that filled her own eyes and that of her sister's when she was told that the cubs were missing. There was a loyalty among members of a pride and with that loyalty came the desire to protect them at any and all costs; from that loyalty came strength. The queen suspected that Zora led the male lion off to protect them and especially the cubs, but she didn't have to do this alone. Together they stood a greater chance against him than any of them could alone.
Before she could voice what they were all probably thinking in some form, his roar alerted her to his presence before he was seen. The Highlands King was here to defend his territory. Pleasantries and other common courtesy would have to be exchanged later because as soon as he charged after Makko, Nala and her sister followed. The moment the king launched his attack after arriving at their location, the two Pridelanders were on guard as they stood close to Zora, keeping their eyes and ears alert for any other threats that may be lurking close by. Especially if he brought friends.

For a brief moment Zora thought she was a goner, Makko had been giving her that same look he had a year or two ago. Only when did she see that Maliki was stalking Makko that a glimmer of hope made it's way into her heart. When seeing him, she gave a slight swish of the tail, locking eye with him for a brief moment. Highlanders were more accustom to the darker light, Makko hadn't seen him. Or at least she hoped so. After another moment Maliki let out a heart stopping roar and landed on Makko. Zora watched in utter amazement as the Highlanders king fought for her life and the protection of their pride. So badly did she want to join the fight, but she knew where her place lied, making sure to protect the king if he fell. She wondered if the others were safe, if the cubs were out of harms way. She didn't want her risk to be in vain. But even if was, she knew she had done the right thing. She felt Nala suddenly materialize beside her. She was grateful, but still caught up in the battle.
