KULA
The elderly, chocolate brown lioness stepped through the high grass surrounding the water hole, the golden crop gently brushing around her slouching body as she moved forward. Kula peeked her head out of the grass just far enough to see if anyone was there. In her view, she could see two males and a female. She recognized none of them, and two had the scent that they were not from these lands. Living as a rogue on the borders of other prides all her life, she knew the scents. One male, a vagrant, one lioness, a.. Highlander. The other male is a Pridelander. It is amazing how I can still detect these things.. she thought, smiling and shaking her head.
She quietly paced through the grass and into the open, walking up to the water just a few feet from them. She didn't fear them, they didn't seem threatening. If they tried to start anything, Kula knew she could defend herself. She yawned as she sat on her haunches and stretched her forepaws out, sliding her body into a laying position with her paws submerged in the water. Already the sun was beating down on the savannah with it's brutal heat.
"Hello, I don't believe I have met you three before," she greeted them cheerfully, a smile coming over her broad face. Her amber eyes scanned over the water, then closing peacefully as she was lost deep in thought, remembering her past at the water hole. All of her friends.. The moment did not last long though, for she quickly turned her head away from the water and grimaced. If only her past had always been that content.

H U R U
As soon as Huru had spoke to the new lioness, she had removed herself from the water and began heading back the way she had come. Huru watched her exit without a word or a glance in their direction. "She must not have heard me..." Huru said to Zora, shrugging his shoulders in the process. Hearing her giggle at his last comment and feeling the nudge of her paw against his flesh, Huru turned back to face the lioness beside him. A smile turned up the corners of his lips as he laughed at her own response. He liked Zora, her confidence, her sense of humor. He had never met a lioness quite like her before.
He watched as Zora got to her feet, stretching for a moment before settling herself down beside him. She was much closer to him now and Huru could feel the warmth radiating off of her body. He opened his mouth to speak to her, but was cut off by the unexpected entrance of another lioness. A chocolate brown lioness came into view, heading toward the water's edge and settling herself down before it. Unlike the lioness who had entered before her, this one turned in their direction and gave a kind greeting before allowing her eyes to wander over the water's surface.
From the scent she carried with her, Huru was able to determine her as another member of the Pridelands. Although she did not seem bothered by their presence, Huru felt himself growing a bit uncomfortable with all of the Pridelanders that had made their way to this location. He knew he was intruding on their territory and in the intense heat of the day, the watering hole was a prime location for some relief from the blazing sun. Huru felt that it was only a matter of time before the king or queen of these lands made their way here, and knowing nothing about either of them made him feel uneasy about what could transpire here.
For now however, everything seemed alright. The new lioness was not bothered by their intrusion into her territory and the other female lioness had come and gone without a word. Huru decided that he would only worry about the king and queen of the Pridelands should they make their way down to the watering hole. For now, the young male was content seated closely beside Zora and curious about the new lioness that had just spoke to them.
"Hello." He said back to her. "I'm Huru and this is Zora" He added, nodding in Zora's direction as he spoke her name. If he was planning on hanging out in this territory for a little longer, the least he could do was be polite.

KULA
Kula turned her broad muzzle back towards the lions' direction as he spoke, noting his politeness. Smiling again, she was almost sure it was because he wanted to make a good impression; for the Highlander lioness and for Kula herself, being a Pridelander. It seemed Huru had a liking for Zora. Kula sort of caught on that he must've been a bit nervous.
The dark lioness scented he was a rogue and knew he was also nervous about his consequences of being caught in their territory, though she also knew he would not stay for long. Once a rogue, forever a rogue, usually. Kula had been through all of this before, and she knew the feeling well, only it had been harder for her since she was formerly dependent on her pride. King Simba and Queen Nala were very nice and considerate though, her smile widened over her maw as she remembered the fun they had as cubs. Unfortunately only Nala had been there when she was a cub; Kula was born after Simba and Mufasa had fallen.
"Hello, Huru and Zora," she nodded at them and added, "My name is Kula. Don't worry about being strangers; both of you are my friends giving me a visit," she gave them a kind wink, hoping they would get the message. The Pridelands were a welcoming place for those that were not threatening or deceitful. Not for a second did she ever think Simba would turn them away if they were her companions, and all good lions were friends of Kula. They seemed to be very nice lions and had a good aura about them, not trouble makers. Kula was Simba's half sister after all.
Kula slowly dragged herself closer to the water playfully, close enough to stick half her muzzle into the cool water, letting it wash over face as she took a long drink, relaxing as it soothed her dry throat. Kula was thirstier than she imagined, it seemed the dry season was starting to get to her. Thinking this, she pulled her muzzle from the water and looked to the sky, the water dripping from her wet snout. There.. there has been no seasonal rains yet.. the thought worried her. A re-run of what happened during Scar's reign would certainly be the death of her. She shook her head, Simba was too wise to be as stupid as Scar was; he would not abuse and disrespect the herds in that way.
She turned her attention back to the others though, not wanting to think about that at the time, "So what brings you here, besides visiting me, my friends?" she questioned them warmly.

Zora enjoyed Huru's company greatly and would not deny that she found a great fondness for him. But she found herself seated quite close to him and blushed a little at realizing it. Hopefully if Huru noticed, he could only think of it as the heat bothering her. A new lioness entered Zora's range of vision, an older one. She was still beautiful and young looking, but the way she held herself was that of a lion who had seen many years. As the chocolate brown lioness spoke, Zora found herself liking her instantly. "Hello, nice to meet you." She nodded as Huru introducing them both. A gust of wind blew, kicking up dry, dead grass and dust up into Zora's face and eyes. She growled softly and shook out her pelt. The wind was hot and dry, giving no relief to Zora and her friends.
"Thank you so much Kula." Zora smiled, gratefully. She dipped her head in respect, she was less stressed about being around a Pridelander now. And as Kula said, she was visit a friend. She watched Kula closely, observing her like she did all lions. As her new friend looked up at the sky, she found herself doing the same thing. When would the rains come? The young Highlander thought to herself. As Kula as her question, Zora looked over at Huru, wondering if he would like to explain his reasoning for coming to the Pridelands. Perhaps he wanted her to speak first? Seeing no sign of any preference, Zora opened her maw to speak. "As you probably can tell, I am of the Highlands pride. And although it is normally quite shady there, the last couple days have been painfully hot, so I left my pride in search of some place to cool down and relax. And I'm pretty sure I found the place." She settle down, more comfortably at finishing her explanation. She straighten suddenly, "And thank you for allowing me to take part in this waterhole." Zora let her gaze fall at her paws, a bit embarrassed. Normally she was good with this kind of thing, she wondered what made this time any different. Many she was trying to look impressive? The dark lioness blushed at the thought, her eyes shifting slowly over to Huru's larger, stronger paws. She could smell the earth in his fur, it brought a sense of peace of Zora. She closed her eyes for a moment relishing in peace and comfort.

H U R U Although the older lioness did not seem bothered by their intrusion into her territory, Huru had never expected her to give them an excuse for being here. They were outsiders in this territory and she knew nothing about either one of them. "Uhh... Thanks, Kula." he replied, surprised that she had offered to cover for them both. There were some prides who did not accept outsiders that invaded on their turf, especially not rogue males. He watched as Kula took a drink from the watering hole before glancing upward at the sky. Zora did the same thing beside him, and he soon found himself following suit. The sky was a bright, vibrant blue above them, the sun a fiery orb. There was not a cloud to be had in the afternoon sky to block the intense rays of the sun from reaching the earth.
As Huru looked upward, he felt the warm rays of the sun beating on his face. It seemed they were drawn to his dark fur and the shaggy mane that surrounded his face. After a few moments, he had to pull his gaze away, the heat becoming too much to bear. Just as he did so, Kula spoke again, questioning their reason for being here. From the corner of his eye, Huru caught Zora's glance at him before she began to answer Kula's question. "This does seem like the perfect place for that." Huru said once Zora had finished speaking. "As for me, I just kind of ended up here. I've just been wandering around the past few days and happened across the Pridelands. I thought I take a look around." He paused for a moment, his gaze shifting from Kula to the lioness beside him who stared at her feet. "But then I ran into Zora." He added with a smile, leaning his body closer to hers. As his shoulder lightly made contact with her own, Huru found himself enjoying the closeness despite the intense heat of the day.
The young male turned his attention back to the older lioness. "Thank you for allowing us to pay you a visit, Kula." He played along with her. "As a friend, it would be rude of me not to ask you how you are doing. And of course how is life in the Pridelands?" He asked, curious to know a little more about the territory that he found himself in for the very first time.

KULA
Her bright amber eyes squinted at the harsh light as it seemed to start affecting her more; the sun's rays pounded down into the depths of her thick brown fur, warming it right down to the skin and bone, evidently. She turned her head away to focus her eyes on the other lions.
"Oh, don't worry, it's no problem at all. Most everyone is welcome here as long as they don't seek trouble. Feel free to come by the waterhole for a visit as you like," she said in a warm, hospitable manner, "as long as the rains don't come and cool the days off, you may be able to see me here more often, as well as other lions.. Maybe even more if a drought strikes.." she added quietly with new dismay in her tone as well as her once kindly face.
Her eyes shifted to the ground for a moment to study the ruddy brown soil about her large paws as she laid there in silence before looking up again to answer the lions' question. "Life in the pridelands has been certainly great ever since Simba and Nala have been in rule. The herds have moved back as well as the plant-life making a comeback. It has been a long time though, many summers past. I just hope the same doesn't recur with a horrid drought.. that was most of the cause for the over hunting. There was simply not enough food to be had-- Oh I am sorry, I ramble on.. Life goes well though. And as for you both?" she chuckled blatantly at herself, the lioness muzzle returned to its former expression of contentment.

Zora smiled gratefully at Huru. She felt him touch her shoulder and she didn't move. She felt as if a spark had shot through her body. It was a strange sensation--was this what if felt like to have an attraction? Zora thought to herself. She leaned against Huru some more, his mane brushing her shoulder every so often. They weren't completely touching, but close enough for Zora's liking--for now. She listen to Kula and realized that the Highlands were not the only ones who were suffering in the heat. She shifted, growing nervous again. "I fear that the Highlands are suffering the same with food and water. We have a small stream that separates us from the Low Landers." Zora tried to keep her voice neutral at mentioning the Low Landers. They were never really on the good side of the Highlanders. "It is getting thinner and we fear it will dry up soon. The King, Maliki, has been kept up in the caves trying to figure out to conserve the water and increase the chance of successful hunts." The dark lioness turned her head back to the Highlands. Maliki was trying to keep the news from all of the pride until it was the right time but-- Zora and may of the others were already noticing the changes. Zora went on the hunts just as often as Jiraa, the lead huntress, did. They had gone hungry for quite sometime. The dark lioness had been trying to hide the fact that her ribs were starting to show. She would not give up, the rains would come. Until then, she would have to change the way she lived for a little while. She realized that her worried thoughts had changed her relaxed expression, she quickly smiled at them all and said lightly, "But the rain will come. Until then we will just have to change a few things about the way we live." Zora tried to sound sure of her own statement, but it had been so long since rain had blessed the earth. She was growing even more nervous.

H U R U "Don't worry Kula, we had no intention of causing any trouble here." He said to her, the corners of his lips turning upwards in a soft smile. The last thing that the rouge male wanted on a day like this was to start any sort of problems with the members of the Pridelands. During his travels he had heard many things about the pride that lived here, including the stories of its past kings as well as the war that had gone on between the neighboring pride up until recently. Already, three pride members had made an appearance at the watering hole, suggesting to the young male lion that there was an abundance of them that thrived here. Wandering from territory to territory on his own was risky enough, the last thing he needed was to have an entire pride of lions on his back.
"I can't say I have anything to complain about." He said to Kula "Though it would be helpful if the rains would arrive sometime soon..." He added, looking back on the past few weeks. Though he never stayed in one place for very long, Huru had seen the extent of the damage the lack of rainfall had caused across the territories. There was little water to be had anywhere and the vegetation had become dry and brittle. With each day, it was becoming harder to find herds of animals to hunt, for they were moving on in search of plant life elsewhere.
Out of the corner of his eye, Huru caught Zora's subtle shift toward him that lessened the distance between them by a few more inches. He could feel the tips of fur on her shoulder caressing his own with each hot, dry breeze that passed by. As the lioness beside him recounted the the current status of the Highlands, Huru's auburn eyes made contact with hers. "It seems all of the territories are suffering a great deal from this drought." He added to Zora's statement, glancing over to the watering hole beside him that he knew had once been much larger than it was now. As Zora continued speaking, he could sense her discomfort in her voice and found his eyes wandering back toward her again. As she shifted nervously beside him, Huru leaned his body into hers, closing the space between them completely as a comforting touch. "Everything will be alright. The rains are just a little late, that's all." He said softly, trying to reassure her and lessen her agitation. "Right Kula?" He asked the elder lioness, though this time he could not tell who he was trying to reassure. Zora, or himself.
ooc: i'm so sorry for the wait guys!!

KULA
She closed her eyes and nodded in their direction, another kind smile spreading over her maw as she listened to him tell her they wouldn't cause any trouble. Of course she trusted in his word, this would be one of the worst times to make an enemy anyway, for any lions of any prides.
Her face became serious again upon hearing of news about the other territories that were suffering just as bad as the Pridelands were, if not worse off. The serious expression turned to sadness as she thought of all the creatures that would die from the drought.. With another thought, her face took on another look entirely, a look of disbelief and slight disgust. Could the lions become so driven with hunger as to begin.. eating eachother..? Their family, their friends, their enemies? Oh how the world will change.. the thoughts jumbled around in her head in a confusing mass.
Huru asked his question and so Kula made her expression lighten once more, "but of course, Huru. I'm sure everything will be just fine," she lied. Sure she felt a bit guilty, for she knew the rains would not arrive for still a long time, but hope would help them live if anything did.

(OOC: Sorry I haven't replied yet.)
Zora smiled and held her breath, she was going to do it. She let her head rest on Huru's large shoulder, feeling the comfort his touch brought. She smiled warmly at Kula, nodding her head in agreement with Huru, "We will be perfect guests." She wanted to make sure that all the ties between the Highlands and Pridelands were good. She didn't want to cause anyone any problems.
Zora nodded at hearing Huru and Kula's words, wishing so badly to believe them. She fixed her eyes on the horizon, watching the skyline, half expecting to see rain clouds. "but of course, Huru. I'm sure everything will be just fine,"
Zora nodded again, sighing slightly. All this talk of rain and lack of water made her thirsty. She sat up a little and trotted over to the water, barely letting her tongue lap of the cool, refreshing water. She halfheartedly pulled away, the drink only making her want the water more. When she returned to the Highlands she give herself a nice long drink, until then--she'd have to wait. Zora felt guilty for even drinking the small amount that she did. The dark colored lioness sat down with a small thump, hot, tried and thirsty. She held her breath as she placed her head on his shoulder, her mood improving slightly.
"I've always loved the Pridelands, only been here one other time." Zora said, suddenly changing the subject. "I've love to get a tour sometime, if the King and Queen wouldn't mind." She said with a half intention of Huru seeing the Pridelands as well. They both shared the heart of adventure.
